Gills365 League Review: Division One - Week 7

Last updated : 14 February 2007 By Guffie

Only one no-show this week and that was Markg who was away to Zoidy. Zoidy won 4-0 and this was only the 2nd time in this league that Zoidy has managed to score more than two goals. Mark stays firmly rooted to the bottom of the league having only one win in this league.

The top three all drew this week, and by the same scoreline, 5-5. (Makes my reviews a little easier). Elliott remains top after drawing away to Townender. Jagman remains in 2nd place after his draw with Baldangel but alas Guffie's draw with KFG drops them both down a place to 4th and 5th respectively.

Ted's 4th win in a row moves him up into 3rd place. This was the worst news for me this week. How could MedwayBlue allow him to win 4-3. All we are going to get now is Ted really lording it up. 'Look at me Guffie, look at me'. I think I'll go on holiday for a week. His flukey run must surely end soon.

This week's big game was the battle of the West Country as Trueblue took on Wiltsy. The car park at West Ibrox was more like a Massey Ferguson show room with everybody looking scarily similar to each other. Once they had cleared the sheep from the pitch and got the game underway it was soon very clear that neither side were taking any prisoners. Wiltsy had only won once in his last six games and the Evens league winner was trying to claw back some pride. It was end to end stuff, but it was Wiltsy who was crowned king of the West Country (as if thats something to be proud of) after winning this high scoring game 5-6. When asked after the game he said the secret to his success was that he had been sleeping with his team....ooooeerrr!!

When Gillsalltheway played Symon earlier in the season he was on a good run of form and beat him 2-4. However, with no movement in the transfer window and low morale in the squad there has been a large downturn in performance recently and it showed as Symon beat him 3-5. GATW now sits 2nd from bottom and some of the players are even threatening a strike. (Which is more than they do on the pitch ).

Martb was sitting in 4th place before he played GTAT but he knew it would be a tough game. Mart hadn't lost in his last eight home games but GTAT hadn't lost in his last six aways. This game was on the cards as a definite draw and so it seemed until GTAT sneaked in a late winner to take all three points. The score ended 3-4.

Jonhinio's good form took a bit of a nose dive as he lost 2-3 at home to Headley. This puts Jon just above the bottom six but allows Headley to gratefully claw his way into 13th spot, but with the league being so tight he could easily be right back down amongst them next week. He could also be up there with the top six but don't forget this is Headley we're talking about.

SkoobiBloo was at home to Fred and even before the game had kicked off Fred was making excuses for not winning. Great morale booster for his team. Maybe he should have had a look at Skoobi's home form first. Not only did Fred win 2-3 but he got his banker right as well. (Surely just an off week). Skoobi now hasn't won in his last five home games.

Some very odd scores this week due I think mainly to the two void matches (thats Gillsalltheway's excuse and hes sticking to it). Hopefully it'll be OK next week but with the Gills on a Friday kick off I'm expecting some late predictions. Prove me wrong, go on.
