Gills365 League Review: Division Two - Week 9

Franky stays top by beating an on form Davefromkent 5-4. That's the first time Dave has been beaten by an opponent when both players have predicted. I suppose he could blame it on the long drive up to Fife, or just blame it on Fife. Sort of place you wipe your feet when you leave.

Deano also won. He beat Birl 2-4 and remains two points behind Franky. One slip from Franky and I'm sure Deano would love to take over top spot. Birl has lost three times in this league and they have all been at home. It must be a really poor ground if even your own team don't like playing there.

Another player who doesn't like playing at home - he's lost his last three games there - is Grumpy. But then he does have the excuse that his ground is getting repairs done on it and has to play all his home games on the local 'rec' at the moment. So he was probably quite pleased that he was playing away to NWBluesfan this week. However NWB was showing some good form just lately and had won his last three games (yes, I thought it was unusual too). But the shock of three in a row was just too much for NWB and Grumps managed to easily beat him 3-5.

Spitfire extends his unbeaten run to eight games, a personal best, as he gave JFC a real tanking and beat him 5-3. This moves Spitty into third place while JFC remains in 17th. This result was slightly unusual as JFC had the Gills down to lose as his banker and still managed to get soundly beaten (is there no hope for the man?).

Elsie played host to Kezz again and was hoping to emulate her own performance after she managed to beat her 4-3 in their last meeting. You just knew it was going to be another tight game with Elsie sitting in 9th place and Kezz in 11th with neither player having won in their last two. What made it more open was that neither of them had chosen the Gills as their banker match (shows how much they know!). It was Kezz however who came away with the three points beating Elsie 2-4 and moving up to 9th with Elsie just behind her on goal difference in 10th.

Cmc42 was at home to Gaz86 and was no doubt hoping to keep her two match winning streak going, but Gaz was himself on a four match unbeaten run and had other ideas. As it turned out they both keep their unbeaten runs going as the game finished in rather a lifeless 2-2 draw.

The biggest news story of the week has to be that Fommt didn't lose. OK he didn't win either but at least he didn't lose. He managed a very respectable 3-3 draw at home to Welease Woderwick. Well it would be respectable until you realise that Woders has only won away from home once all season but don't tell Fommt that.

Lorraine shows us that she is starting to find her feet as she managed a very good 3-3 draw away to third placed Wilfred H. The result is even more impressive when you consider that Wilf has won all his home games in this league. Lorraine still stays in bottom spot and Wilf drops down a place to 4th.

Jasper beat Gills21st 4-3 with ingenious use of tactics and substitutions. He totally outwitted Gills21 and out thought him which helped him to scrape all three points in this close contest (yep, you guessed it. Jasper had the Gills to lose as his banker).

Last Waltz won his first game in this league last week and so probably thought he was due some time off which meant Frediculous Biggs was able to show us exactly what he was made of and get some goal scoring practice in. He managed to score a whole goal, yes...one, singular, lonely goal before being totally worn out and going home. This is the 4th void game LW has had in this league. We've only played nine. Not too impressive mate.

Well done to everyone else for making the effort this week and making this league really exciting but please spare a thought for Fred the Needle, in Division one, who is at home recuperating after an operation. Get well soon Fred.
