Guffie's Gills365 League Review: Round 16 - The EVENS

Last updated : 21 November 2006 By Guffie

Welease Woderwick had a home game against Elsie this week and was trying desperately to re-ignite his season after not having had a win in the last eight games however Elsie had other ideas and came away with a hard fought 2-3 victory. This means Woders will definitely be playing Championship football after the split along with Akinbiyi, who lost 3-2 in a bottom of the table clash with The_Last_Waltz. Last_Waltz could still mathamatically qualify for the Premiership but I think if he does Scotland Yard will become another London airport.

Elliottthegillsfan and Birl were also still clinging on to dreams of mixing it with the big boys after the split but it was Elliott that showed he wanted more with a comfortable 3-1 victory, moving Birl down to 4th from bottom, level on points with Franky who must have had Mrs Franky doing his picks for him this week as he managed a good 4-5 away victory against NWBluesFan, who obviously had his mind on trying to find something else he could try and change in the league. Maybe he could try and change it so that the loser gets the three points lol. Then he would be in the top half of the league.

Jonhinio and Wilfred met with both players showing some good form recently and the winner would be sitting on the right side of the 'Great Divide' after the game. Jonhinio's attack was just too much for Wilfred and beat him 3-5 but that doesn't put Wilf out of the hunt as he sits just below the split on 21 points. Also on 21 points but with more goals (God knows how) is Spitfire who was given a real lesson in total football by Guffie. Not being one to blow my own trumpet (which is a really good trick if you can manage it) but I got the highest score of the day by thrashing him 2-6 at his own ground. I was so happy I almost bought a round.

Two top half of the table clashes saw markg playing host to Baldangel, who hadn't lost in nine games, and winning a very close game 4-3. Both players are still sitting in the top half in 6th and 7th places respectively. The other game saw 7th placed Medwayblue take on 6th placed Jagman with Jagman coming away with the three points after a 3-5 victory and ending his three game losing streak.

'I have a lot of injuries and the ref was biased, the coach got stuck in traffic, no money for players wages, my cats ill, 2 off sides denied 3 clear penalties etc etc'. These were just a very short number of the poor, feeble and pathetic excuses given to me by Wiltsgill after yet another defeat as he went down 4-3 to SkoobiBloo. This really does undermine the great effort put in by Skoobi to take him to within one point of Wilts who remains in 2nd place. The truth is more likely to be that his bottles gone.

Someone who is clearly still keeping his game going even though he has clearly qualified for the Premiership is GTAT as he thumps four past Kezz to beat her 2-4, and it shows that Kezz is clearly feeling the pressure but still manages to cling on desperately to that magical 10th spot.

To sum up, it was another good week with a 100% turnout with no errors (except for Spitty who made the error of thinking he would win) and not a single draw this week as people are starting to fight tooth and nail for a place amongst the 'Elite' in just three games time. Best of luck for next week.
