Guffie's Gills365 League Review: Round 17 - The ODDS

Last updated : 30 November 2006 By Guffie

I'm afraid we have to start this week by congratulating Fred_the _needle for becoming the odds league champion with two games still to play after a fine 4-4 draw with Headley, who gave him a good battle, but we don't really know how much effort Fred was putting in as he had already secured his place in Division 1 weeks ago. Headley has now gone eleven games since a defeat and will surely secure his place next week. Well done Fred. (That really hurt).

Fred has won the league but who would win in Symons household as Symongills took on Cmc42? Well it just goes to show that Dad really does know what's best as he took no prisoners in his 4-2 victory and put the young upstart in her place, which is playing Division Two football after the split. Symon, how cruel can you get? (You can stop gloating now...ok maybe not, you make the most of it).

The only other person to secure their place in Division One is Townender after he beat Jfc (no, surely not) 4-5. Well done Townender and well done to Jfc who now has the best run in either leagues as he has now gone 17 games without a win. (I didn't say it was a good run) I don't think anyone will ever beat that. Something to be proud of mate. (stop crying!).

But at least Jfc is still trying whereas Coombs seems to have given up the ghost as he failed to predict again this week and gave Deano a very comfortable 0-4 victory and the more than useful three points, leaving Deano just below the great divide by one point.

Zoidy gets his 2nd win in a row and increases his unbeaten run to six games after a very close 3-2 victory over KFG and moves himself up to fourth place whilst KFG makes a very rare visit to the bottom half of the table. Fommt gets his first win in four games as he easily overcame Grumpy to beat him 5-3, but it's all too late to save him from Div Two football next season. At least his win moved Grumps down to 12th place so some good came out of it!

Gills21st and Jasper will both be playing in Division Two after the split after both losing this week. Jasper lost in a close away game against Martb. Martb scrapped through 3-2 and all but secures his place with the big boys after the great divide but poor Gills21st got hammered 5-3 by a very hungry Gaz86 who now moves up to 10th place and looks like he really means business.

Third-placed Gillsalltheway had won his last three games and must of been feeling very confident as he faced our heathen, sorry, Scottish friend Trueblue who had just lost his eight match unbeaten run last week. However, due to some clever substitutions (and no doubt a 'Glasgow Kiss' or two) Trueblue came through with a 4-3 home victory.

Well that's it for this week...oh yes, Tedhowes won...again! There, i said it. Happy now? He managed to beat a very unlucky Frediculous_name by four goals to three. (The offside rule obviously hasn't been invented Down Under). Fredic must now win his next two games to have any chance of reaching the mighty heights that is Div. One. (No chance there then). Ted is now the most on-form player having won his last five matches.

But I will finish this week by putting my serious head on for a minute and saying well done to Fred_the_needle for winning the odds league. (With a bit of luck they won't let him back in the country).
