Guffie's Gills365 League Review: Round 18 - The EVENS

Last updated : 05 December 2006 By Guffie

Well didn't we all have some fun this weekend with six players, myself included, either late with their predictions or failing to post at all! But when you look at some of the results this wasn't the only laughing matter this week.

Welease Woderwick was one of those who was late predicting which straight away put him on an eleven match run without a win. So Kezz, his opponent this week, was eagerly awaiting a very welcome three points. Well I'm afraid she is still waiting as she failed to get a single prediction right. In fact if Woders predictions had been on time he would have won 3-0. Sorry to rub salt in the wound mate! But Kezz, really, not even able to score in an empty net? How do you feel?!

Two of the players who were late had the good fortune to be playing each other so knew they were safe for a point. They were NWBluesFan and GTAT, and if their predictions had counted it would have been a 2-2 draw. This result means NWB now needs a miracle in next weeks game to get a promotion place.

Jagman and Jonhinio on the other hand are definitely through to Division One after the split. Jonhinio had a good 1-3 away win against Akinbiyi, and Jagman secured an easy 0-3 victory over Wilfred who seems to have buckled under the pressure in recent weeks and now finds himself playing Div Two football for the second half of the season.

Even though Birl managed to just scrape past an absent Last Waltz 0-1 it was too little too late to save him from playing in the lower league after next week. Maybe if he had been playing from the very start instead of Davefromkent it might have been a different story...but I doubt it. [We'll find out just how good Dave is as he's back, taking over from the serial absentee Coombs in the Odds division - Ed]

The only other person at the moment who definitely knows where he will be playing in the second half of the season is poor Franky. My friend from the Kingdom of Fife lost in a very close contest with the reigning champion Spitfire, and so must join the lower league after the split. Maybe if he were to sort out the behind the scenes turmoil between manager and assistant manager he might stand more of a chance. However Spitfire, after winning 4-3, must still put every effort into next week to ensure himself a Division One spot. (I wouldn't laugh too much Spitty, honest).

Elsie managed a very credible 2-2 away draw against SkoobiBloo to keep her hopes of promotion alive. Whereas Skoobi is now on a thirteen-match unbeaten run and has already easily qualified for Div One. Medwayblue is almost there, but not quite, after his 3-2 win over Baldangel, who slips down to 10th place on 25pts with Spitty and Elliott. Elliott finds himself in this position after a 2-0 victory over me but only because I felt sorry for him [yeah right! - Ed]. But if my predictions had counted he would still have beaten me 2-1 so well done Elliott and best of luck for next week. Especially if you are playing Spitty!

That just leaves Wiltsgill who cruised past an absent Markg this week and put two goals past him with no reply. Wilts is the only person who can take the Evens league title away from GTAT next week so come on GTAT and get your act together...PLEASE.

One week left and four places still up for grabs so if you do already know where you are playing after the split then please still predict next week to make a good fair game of it. Thanks.
