Guffie's Gills365 League Review: Round 18 - The ODDS

Last updated : 05 December 2006 By Guffie

Well guys and gals, just one week left before the split and things are starting to sort themselves out now as Martb, Zoidy and Trueblue (God help us) join Fred and Townender into Division One for the second half of the season and Frediculous_biggs' slim chance of making it vanished. You would have thought he would have put up a bit of a fight at home to Zoidy but managed to get no points as Zoidy, without even trying, managed to score one.

Martb was playing an already relegated Gills21st and it showed as Martb cruised past him 2-4. That puts Mart just one point behind Townender who was late with his post this week and so scored no points. Wasn't Trueblue, his opponent, pleased about that?! But it wasnt until the second-to-last game that Trueblue managed to find the back of the net and crawl into Div One with a one nil victory. If Townender's predictions had been on time he would have, naturally, won 2-1.

An on-form Headley was in confident mood as he played host to SymonGills. This turned out to be a very tight match and it all rested on the Gills game. Unfortunately for Headley this was Symons banker and so Symon won the game 1-2 . Not bad for someone who has probably got the world's worst hangover after celebrating his victory over his daughter last week. Headley now needs a win in his last game to qualify for a place with the elite.

I know Fred is in a different time zone at the moment but this week he was also at the wrong match as he thought that he was playing Townender but still managed to scrape a 1-1 draw with Gillsalltheway (what happened there mate?). Jasper and Fommt2 had the only other draw this week as they battled it out for a bit of pride but finished 2-2. Luckily for Jasper he didn't get his Forest prediction correct as he had used this as his banker but AFTER fommt had also used it as his banker. Need to pay a bit more attention mate if you want to get out of the 2nd Division.

Grumpy was at home this week against JFC and I was rooting for JFC to get his first win of the season (nothing against you of course Grumps) but Grumpy did just enough to win 2-1 but that still leaves him in 11th place and is another one who is on a 'must win' game next week. Tedhowes is now just one point off making it into the 1st Division after his 2-0 victory over an absent Coombs (again) and now has the best winning run in this league. How am I supposed to have a go at him if he keeps winning?

Cmc42 got over her disappointment of last week (sorry to bring that up again lol) by beating Deano away 2-3. This still leaves Deano with an outside chance of getting through but it is only a very slight, outside chance. Gaz86 has done himself no favours at all this week by not only failing to score but also allowing KFG to thump four past him. So best result of the weekend goes to KFG and also moves him back into the top ten.

So just one more game to go before the split and, as I've done with the Evens league, I ask everyone to still put their predictions in so that it makes a good, fair game of it for those still looking at which division they will be playing in next season. (Except Ted, I dont mind if you don't predict mate).

STOP PRESS: After not posting a single prediction in the last five weeks of the season, Coombs has been withdrawn from the competition. His replacement, Davefromkent, will take over the final remaining league game, against an already safe Zoidy, before leading his side in Division Two during the second half of the season.
