I'll start with two of the players who were already through to Division One as Odds league Champion Fred the needle played host to 2nd placed Townender. Both players could afford to relax and show off some of their footballing skills. Fred, however, turned up a little too relaxed (about eight pints relaxed) and Townender really went to town on him and easily beat him 3-5.
Another two players who could afford to relax, but for a different reason as they would both be playing Div. Two football after the split, were Fommt and Gills21st. They put on a good show for their fans and the game finished in a 3-3 draw. Neither of them had anything to play for but at least they still turned up, unlike JFC who obviously knew what the outcome would be in his match against Jasper. Maybe he was already away preparing for the next stage as Jasper beat him 0-4.
This week we welcomed back Davefromkent (I wonder how how came by that user name) who took over Coombs place. His first game was a difficult away trip to Zoidy, who was unbeaten in his last seven games. Well Dave must have been doing his homework because he rattled three passed Zoidy without conceding a single goal. (Zoidy, what happened?).
The most on form player at the moment is Ted Howes. Having won his last six games Ted only needed a point against Deano to go through to league one. Deano could also still qualify but needed a win and other results to go his way. Unfortunately, for me, Deano could not break Ted's good form but did manage to hold on for a respectable 3-3 draw . It would have been nice if Deano could have got some revenge for the cricket.
Another player needing a win but only getting a draw was Gaz86 as he drew 2-2 with an already demoted Frediculous Biggs and so scuppering any hopes he may of had for making it through. Gillsalltheway faced an away trip to Symongills with both players in a good position of making it to Division One. GATW put in a great performance to win 2-4 and ensuring his place with the master class and leaving Symon to wait anxiously for the outcome on the other results. He need not have worried as the plaqyers in 9th and 10th spot both lost their games. Headley lost 4-3 in a tight away battle with Cmc42 and Kentucky Fried Gills totally lost his nerve and was thumped 6-3 by Martb.
With the results as they were, Grumpy was only needing a point in his away fixture with Trueblue to get promotion. All our best wishes went out to him. (Trueblue that is). But we need not have been concerned as Grumpy collapsed under the pressure and allowed Trueblue a very comfortable 5-3 victory. To think that Grumpy had been so proud of his goals tally yet it was this that let him down as he missed out on 10th spot to KFG by one goal.
As a little side note, Grumpy managed to persuade Kezz to play in the league by saying that at least she would beat me. Now both Grumpy and Kezz will be playing in Division Two in the next phase. If I were one to gloat I could really be nasty now. But I'm sure they both know what I'm thinking.
So well done to those of you who made it to the First Division and hard luck to those in Division Two, but a very big thank you to everyone for making this predictions league so enjoyable and I'm sure you would like to join me in thanking Headley and Grumpy for their hard work every week that makes this league the success it is.
Good luck in your respective divisions.
