KFG finished in 2nd place and with better home form may even have taken the title from Ted. I'm afraid there were just too many draws at home and not enough wins. If he could just get his players to be as decisive at home as they are away he could be a contender next season.
Headley may well have taken that 2nd spot from KFG, if he had managed to turn up for his home game against him towards the end of the season, but will have to settle for third. Headley was another one that seemed to find his best form on the road. Of the six games he lost, four of them were at home. Worth remembering for next season.
GTAT's home form was also pretty poor. He lost four games in this division and three of them were at home. But if the prize for this competition was being awarded for the entire seasons results then GTAT would be the true champion as over the season he scored more points than anyone else. Congratulations GTAT, the real champion. (I'm afraid thats the best excuse I could come up with to stop Ted being awarded the title).
Fifth place went to Jonhinio, who may of fared a little better had it not been for his poor start to the season. Losing three of his first four games made it an uphill struggle, which he found difficult to recover from. Although it was strange that his best run of form was when he was training for the Marathon. (Well that's what he told us he was doing, I have my doubts).
Guffie [aka the author - Ed] was totally robbed! Going pretty well up to the last seven games of the season when all of a sudden his world collapsed. (or Ted's voodoo kicked in, one of the two). He only managed to win two of his last seven games. Resulting in a poor, (by his exceptional standards) lowly sixth-place finish. Still, he finished above TrueBlue and Wiltsy so it wasn't all bad news.
Jagman also had a poor finish to the season, winning only one of his last five games. He finished in seventh place but can at least brag that he was one of the few people to beat Ted, mind you he was also one of the few teams that lost to Fred. Hmmm, boast or keep quiet? Tough one.
How can you have any sympathy for Martb in 8th place? He had the Gills down to lose as his banker almost every week, shame on you! I believe that should result in a further ten point reduction. Mind you, that would still leave you higher up the league than Fred!!
TrueBlue in 9th place promised so much before the season started but lacked that killer instinct to go on and win his games. Eight draws in a season tells its own story. That's what happens when you have Mulligan in your strike force. But I have heard rumours that he is signing his young lad as his new striker for next season to add a bit of a punch. (More like a Glasgow kiss).
I dont think SymonGills will be too unhappy about finishing in tenth place but he will be totally gutted that he not only finished below his brother Jagman but also lost to him 5-4. Good job the wife and daughter were in division two or he may have ended up getting relegated.
Elliottthegillsfan had a great start to this division until halfway through the season and he looked around to see himself pushing for top spot and must have got vertigo. "Mr T" then proceeded to hit the freefall mode and won only two of his last nine games and finally coming to a halt in eleventh place.(The shock a bit much was it Mr T??).
SkoobiBloo and Zoidy finished in 12th and 13th places respectively and both need to work on their defensive capabilities for the new season. They both lost five of their home games and were the only ones in the top fourteen who finished with a minus goal difference. Time to open the coffers and part with some cash for the new season. (I hear Gills have got a couple of defenders going).
Say what you like about Baldangel, and most people do, but his away form was very impressive in this league. He only lost two of his away games and won five. So how did he end up in fourteenth place I hear you ask? Unfortunately his home form was diabolical, winning only one home game in this division, against SymonGills (Name and shame that's what I always say).
But after all is said and done at least the afore mentioned fourteen players managed to stay in Division one for next season, where as the following dregs of society, (I mean, unfortunate ones) will have to contend with the 'lesser skilled' opposition that is division two next season. You will also notice that the despairing 'list of six' contains the names of both the Evens league champion, Wiltsy, and the Odds league champion, Fred. I think there is a lesson for us all there. Its a marathon...not a sprint.
Wiltsy was in 15th place on goal difference. (Oh that is sooooo sad...not). But that's hardly surprising as he conceded more goals than anyone else in EITHER division. I always wondered who Kelvin Jack went to play for... But please don't feel too upset for Wiltsy, after all he does live in Swindon.
Gillsalltheway's season started badly and then progressively got worse. I've been trying to find something in his season to show him that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, now let me see...nope, nothing at all! Ever thought of taking up cricket? Even when his opposition never showed up he only managed a 0-0 draw.
MedwayBlue is down in 17th place and deservedly so. MedwayBlue won six games in this league. Three of those the opposition never turned up so that makes a lowly three games won, and one of those was against Gillsalltheway so that doesn't count either. It is therefore very remarkable that MedwayBlue's goal difference is actually plus 5...how??
In 18th place is Speedy who was really in a no win situation after taking over from Mark183. But having played only eight games he still managed to win four of them so he will no doubt be looking forward to next season to show us what he's made of.
Townender finished in 19th place but was doing fairly well until he moved away to Uni. Then the endless orgies and drunken binges really took their toll because out of his last twelve games he only bothered to show up four times. Good to see our tax payers money isnt going to waste eh? His last win in his drug-induced haze was a 5-4 victory over SkoobiBloo, that was ten games ago. At that rate EVEN Fred will beat him next season.
Now last, and by all means least, we find (if we look really hard at the bottom of the league) Fredtheneedle, the Odds league champion. Stop laughing Headley, thats not nice! He has now not won in his last eleven games and only failed to show up once when he forgot to put in his user name. (I'm not surprised). All I can say (through fits of laughter) is that his true class came through in the end. Enjoy the 2nd division Fred, more your standard I think.
On a more serious note, I'd like to say well done to all of you for making this competition what it is and on your behalf I would like to thank Headley and Grumpy for all the hard work they put into it to make it a success. Good luck to you all next season, no matter which league you are in.
