Gills365 League: Division Two season review

Last updated : 08 June 2007 By Guffie

The Kingdom of Fife reigns supreme in Division Two as Franky is the runaway champion. Undefeated at home and only two defeats on the road giving him the highest points total in either division. Congratulations Franky. (Not bad for a Jock). The things he has to do to get away from the missus.

A late charge from Gills21st saw him clinch 2nd place from Grumpy and Spitfire. He won all but one of his last eight games and if it hadn't been for a little lapse mid-season, could have been a little closer to giving Franky a run for his money.

In third place was Grumpy who was undefeated in his last eleven games. But five losses out of six games near the beginning of the season ruined any chance of a better finish for him. (I think someone forgot to tell him we had started). Funnily enough, his good form started just as Fred started his slump in division one. I think his move back to his refurbished stadium will put him in good stead for next season.

Spitfire was in 4th place but with a seven goal thumping of Franky towards the end of the season showed he will not be an easy opponent in division one. He only lost once in his first nine games but then seemed to tire towards the end...must be his age. But for a 75 year old, 4th is a good finish.

Gaz86 finished in 5th place and managed to scrape a promotion spot but if he carries on drawing so many games he will struggle in division one. As any major club will tell you, you can't afford to keep losing the lead in the last ten minutes. (Just ask Ronnie Jepson).

The last promotion spot goes to Deano in 6th place who just managed to get there in front of Wilfred_h by one point. Deano was showing signs of nerves as he lost his last two games of the season but Wilf was unable to capitalise on these errors.

Had Wilf won his last game of the season instead of drawing at home against JFC, he would now be preparing for 1st division football. This was an even more surprising result given Wilf's excellent home form, undefeated there all season. But unfortunately his away form let him down badly. Winning only twice on his travels. (Where have I heard that before?).

Birl in eighth place should really of made the promotion places. He had four games where the opposition never turned up, giving him twelve points he didn't have to work for. He started this league quite brightly but fell away at the end. In his last eight games he only won twice and on both occasions the opposition failed to turn up.

Elsie finished in 9th place, mainly due to her poor away form. At home she managed to win over half her games but only won two away games. These games were against Grumpy and Spitfire so this proves she can mix it with the better teams (if you can call them that) when she sets her mind to it.

In tenth place was Kezz. What can i say?? An average position for an average season really. Both home and away she won as many games as she lost. Very 'safe' tactics. (For safe read 'boring'). I think she needs to be a little more adventurous next season. (Calm down Spitty, I didn't mean it like that).

NWBluesfan finally graces us with his presence in 11th place. I say finally as this was the player who was going to swan into the first division with ease. What happened there then? I'll let you into a little secret...your home form stank. Only three wins at home from ten games. When quizzed about this at the end of the season he replied, 'I tried, honestly, I tried'. I actually agree with that...he should be.

Jasper finished in 12th place due mainly to his poor away form. He only won three times on his travels and one of those games the player never turned up. But having said that, Jasper was one of only two players to beat Franky in this league. I think this could mainly have been due to Franky forgetting to use his user-name rather than by any skill on Jaspers part.

Unlucky thirteenth spot goes to the now infamous JFC. He will no doubt be delighted with this position as I'm sure you will all remember, JFC failed to win a single game in the Odds league. (That just isn't going to go away is it?). He managed to win seven games in this league. Is he improving or is he just reflecting the standard of the teams he's now playing? Well lets see some of the teams he beat and judge that question for ourselves: Fommt, Kezz, NWBluesfan... definitely just a reflection of the standard then.

Fommt in 14th spot is another player who needs to look at his terrible away form. Only two wins out of ten. His home form is very impressive, only two losses. Now if he could only take some of that good form on his travels we could see a different Fommt next season.

Frediculous_name in 15th spot also only won two games away but where he differs from Fommt is that his home form wasn't exactly great either. Although he was unbeaten in his last four games so he may be able to carry that sort of form over to next season. But then Gillingham may win the FA Cup. (I know who I'd rather bet on).

Welease Woderwick had the same poor run of form as Frediculous Biggs but he also failed to show up for three of his games which didn't help his struggling cause at all. Where did it all go wrong Woders? Your home form wasn't great and your away form was even worse. Oh well, at least you didn't come last.

Perksd took over from Davefromkent who has yet to finish a whole season. But it was still a shame as Dave had been playing really well. He was looking in good shape…then Perky took over. Perky played eight games, his stats? Won 2, Drawn 1, Lost 5. Not really putting the fear of God into everyone else eh?

Now we come to the dogfight for the bottom three places. In 18th spot is Lorraine. She took over from Akinbiyi quite early on and played 13 games. She only won four of these and all of them were away. Maybe the Kingdom of Fife isn't as good as Franky has led us to believe.

Even though Cmc42 finished in 19th place, the highly valued accolade of worst team in the league must surely go to her. She played in all 19 games and only won twice, once at home and once away. (Lorraine and Grumpy being the unfortunate victims).

By the time GillsGaz took over from LastWaltz he really had no chance but even he almost managed to finish above Cmc. Losing out only on goal difference. He only played eight games but still managed to win one more than her.

Well that's it for another season. Congratulations to Franky for his outstanding victory and congratulations to everyone else for taking part. Please don't forget that these reviews are just a bit of fun and not meant to rile anyone.

I'm sure you would all like to join me in thanking Headley and Grumpy for all their hard work that goes into making the Gills365 League a success and a lot of fun. See you all next season.
