Ticket sales going well? I'm not so sure

A week or so ago, Kent Online, the website of the Kent Messenger Group, announced "Gills season tickets selling well".

But today I was told that the club had sold "just over 1,000" season tickets, with around 20% of them coming from new ticket holders, many of whom are youngsters taking advantage of the excellent £50 season ticket price.

While it's great to see that we're beginning to recruit more young season ticket holders, I wouldn't say that season tickets in general were "selling well".

After all, of the reported 3,500 season ticket holders we had last season, only around 800 have renewed so far. That means that less than a quarter of last year's season ticket holders have renewed for the coming campaign - and considering there's just a fortnight remaining for those fans to retain their seats for next season, that's a worryingly low figure.

Perhaps they're undecided.

Perhaps they're waiting until the last minute.

Perhaps, like me, they just haven't got round to it yet.

For the sake of the club, the team and the atmosphere in the ground, let's hope so.
