He was one of the world’s deadliest strikers during the mid-nineties – and he produced his best moment of skill to score one of the World Cup’s best-ever goals against Argentina in Marseille back in 1998.Bergkamp: Dutch master
What set Bergkamp apart from the rest was his vision and ability to spot a pass. As a secondary striker, he had few peers, plying his trade with huge success at both club and international level.
At Ajax, Bergkamp was a revelation. He joined the club as a young boy and worked his way through the ranks, scoring 122 goals in 239 games for the Amsterdam club before moving to Inter Milan in a big-money move. Sadly he had a troubled time in Italy and failed to settle, before moving to London, and Arsenal, in 1995.
Since then, Bergkamp has blossomed once again and become one of English football’s best-ever imports. He also helped Arsenal to numerous domestic honours since his arrival, including an amazing unbeaten season in 2003/2004.
Dennis Bergkamp is a present-day great, whose abilities warrant his inclusion in any All-Time Top 50 list.
