Famed for his less than sporting habit of going to ground under a challenge, Klinsmann's main abilities were without doubt in front of goal. He was lethal. In 17 World Cup matches he scored 11 goals. He was an integral part of the side that won Italia 90 and he captained the successful Euro 96 winning team.
At club level, Klinsmann played at the highest level in four of Europe's biggest leagues, the Bundesliga (Bayern Munich), Serie A (Inter Milan, Sampdoria), La Championnat (Monaco) and the Premiership (Tottenham Hotspur).
Despite his reputation in England as a diver, Klinsmann's charming down-to-earth personality quickly won the English fans over - and he won the Footballer of the Year award in 1995 after a prolific first season at White Hart Lane.
Jurgen Klinsmann's playing career may be over, but he'll remain in the footballing spotlight as manager of the German National Team. Whether he can reproduce his playing successes as a manager remains to be seen. If he had a striker as good as he was, his job would be a lot easier!
