Cole: proud Gooner, or feelin' blue?
Every transfer window we see a transfer saga that dominates the news. On this occasion, the supposed `poaching` of Ashley Cole by rivals Chelsea, is taking over the back pages of every paper in the country. But has it really needed to go this far?

The FA launched an official inquiry a few days ago, and the punishment could be as severe as dropped points. But is it really necessary? The bottom line is that despite Ashley Cole keeping quite on the subject, he has stated in the past that he wants a future at Arsenal, and doesn't want to leave. All it needs from Cole, and Peter Kenyon, is a denial, and the whole thing can be dealt with without resorting to punishment.

Regarding the punishment, I take you back to an incident last summer, involving Aston Villa making an illegal approach for James Beattie. Southampton reported it, and Villa's punishment was a £50,000 fine. So why should this latest incident be any different?

All we need is an explanation, on exactly what happened, where and when and why, because it would make the whole issue so much easier to deal with. With both parties keeping quite, it adds a certain degree of doubt over the situation. But the fact is, nobody has yet done this, so the possible transfer hangs in the balance.

Now Chelsea are offering 3 times the wage he is getting at Arsenal,or so we are told. This would be an incentive for him to join the Blues, and they look like having a very successful season. But how can we tell where he will end up? So many times in the past, an agent or a figure at a football club hides important information concerning a player's transfer, and this is no different.

A 100% knowledge of the circumstances will help both clubs, and will also help us understand if Ashley Cole will be at Highbury next season.
