Rumour Mill: Spiller heading Stateside?
The former Gillingham Player of the Year had a season to forget last term, with injury and loss of form costing him regular playing time in the first team.
His fitness levels improved in the second half of the season, but Spiller was more often than not employed in a makeshift striker role - a position he filled with enthusiasm and hard work, but no goals.
Many fans would like to see Spiller stay and resume his midfield partnership with Andrew Crofts, but rumours suggest he could be elsewhere. Sheffield Wednesday were reportedly interested earlier in the year, and Millwall may also be considering a move, but by far the most interesting rumour links Spiller with a move to the MLS, where he could line up against the likes of Claudio Reyna, Juan Pablo Angel and, of course, David Beckham.
RUMOUR RATING **
More likely than Matty Jarvis staying, but still pretty unlikely. Spiller would fit in well at an MLS club in terms of ability, but would he be any better than the young players working their way through the system in the States? Probably not. "The Revs" are always the first MLS club linked to an English player, due largely to the presence of former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol, but it's unlikely that the Gills midfielder will be on the former Scottish international's wanted list.
