DEFENCE
Michael Townsend is a tough centre half who came through the ranks at Wolves before being snapped up on a free transfer by Town in December 2004. Aged only 21, many fans tip Michael for a bright future having impressed with his solid defensive displays. He has formed a strong partnership at the back with Shane Duff which went some way to ensuring their League One survival last season and the Robins faithful will be expecting more of the same this term. He has played 61 times in the League for the Robins and scored one goal. Mullers and Facey will certainly know they have been in a game.
MIDFIELD
John Finnigan is the heartbeat of the Robins side and his all action displays have caught the eyes of their League One rivals, with Bournemouth reported to have made an enquiry in the close season. The 31 year old schemer started his career at Forest as a trainee and joined Lincoln in 1998. Cheltenham Town secured his signature in March 2002 and he has been a key member of the Robins team ever since, including an impressive performance in the League 2 Play Off Final win over Rusden in 2006. The Robins skipper has 144 League appearances for Cheltenham under his belt and has scored 10 League Goals. Both Crofts and Lomas will have to be at the top of their game to make sure Finnigan's influence on the game is negated.
ATTACK
Damian Spencer is a tall and quick striker who has made the transition from non League to League One. His exploits at Windsor and Eaton attracted the attention of Bristol City who snapped him up and he learned his trade in the City Academy. The highlight of his career at City was an LDV Vans substitute appearance at Wembley in 2002 where Damian came off the bench to score, although he could not stop his side slipping to defeat against Stoke. His chances to impress were limited under Danny Wilson and as a result he was snapped up by Cheltenham after a successful trial in 2002. His tenure at Wadden Road has been blighted by injury, but he hopes to have put this behind him and shake off the "super sub" tag that fans have affectionately labelled him with. He has played 181 times in the League for Town scoring 29 times. The Gills back line will have to be at their best to ensure that Spencer does not start the season with a bang.
