The Danger Men: Nottingham Forest

Last updated : 11 October 2006 By Mark Gilmore
“THE HITMAN”

Name:
Grant Holt
Position: Striker
Date of birth: 12/04/81
Previous clubs: Rochdale, Halifax Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Barrow
Squad number: 11
Games played: 13
Goals scored: 6
Goals/Game ratio: 0.46 goals a game

League leaders Nottingham Forest will be wondering how they still find themselves in the top position considering their recent slump. Confirmed absentees for Saturday's game include Nathan Tyson through injury and Jack Lester through suspension, which will see Forest look to leading scorer Grant Holt to provide some salvation in front of goal. The former Rochdale prodigy made a surprisingly good start to the season, including a brace against Brighton. He hasn't managed to add to his tally of 6 since September 9th though, and like his team, Holt is suffering a blip in form. Will Priestfield be the place where his luck changes?

“THE MIDFIELD MAESTRO”

Name:
Kris Commons
Position: Left Midfielder
Date of birth: 30/08/83
Previous clubs: Stoke City
Squad number: 8
Games played: 4
Goals scored: 1
Goals/Game ratio: 0.25 goals a game

Kris Commons is held in high esteem by Forest fans and widely regarded as one of the best talents in the division. A natural left sided player, his quick-footed, dynamic and attacking style of play can trouble any defence. Kris has been hampered with injuries of late though, which have restricted his participation to 4 games so far this season. He did manage to grab a vital goal in Forest's last win, a 3-1 victory over Swansea and will look to continue his comeback with a solid display against the Gills. Will Duncan Jupp be able to handle the tricky left-sided winger?

“THE ROCK”

Name:
Ian Breckin
Position: Central Defence
Date of birth: 24/07/75
Previous clubs: Wigan, Chesterfield, Rotherham
Squad number: 6
Games played: 14
Goals scored: 1
Yellow Cards: 1
Clean Sheets: 7

Club captain Ian Breckin has forged an impressive partnership with Wes Morgan at the heart of defence, becoming one of the club's best on-field assets. Signed from Wigan for £350,000 in 2005, Breckin helped the Latics to promotion to the Premiership by missing only 4 games in an impressive season. This punctual trend continued at Forest, with Ian starting every game for the Reds last season. His wealth of experience has helped develop the younger members of the squad and will be invaluable to Forest's promotion bid this season. Poor defending may have cost the Nottingham side of late, but Ian Breckin will be hoping to reorganise and keep a vital clean sheet on Saturday.
