But the Seasiders could face action from the FA after a second pitch invasion by their supporters in a week.
The home side started brightly and went ahead after just 12 minutes when Rory Prendergast played in Keigan Parker on the right wing and the Scottish striker hit a superb cross which was hit into the back of the net by Matthew Blinkhorn.
The youngster almost repeated the trick with a header a couple of minutes later as Blackpool dominated.
However, just before the half-hour mark they were hit with a classic sucker punch when a defensive mix-up allowed former Blackpool loan player Darren Byfield to tap in from a yard out.
That failed to stop the home side's dominance and they had a string of chances but it looked like it would not be their day six minutes after the break when Byfield picked up his second goal, a neat finish after good work by Matthew Jarvis.
Blackpool were back on level terms seven minutes later in controversial circumstances.
Gillingham had cleared a Prendergast corner and Parker evaded the offside trap to pick up a Jason Wilcox through ball and slot home from close range.
Ten minutes later Parker scored what looked like the winner when he again broke the offside trap to hit a delicate lob over Gillingham keeper Jason Brown.
Blackpool continued to provide most of the goal threat and Brown, who hinted after the game that he may quit the Gills, had to be at his sharpest to stop Ian Morris, while a Parker free-kick hit the underside of the crossbar before bouncing out off the line.
But with four minutes remaining another man who had been on loan at Blackpool, Mike Flynn, gave Gillingham a point they hardly deserved with a fine half-volley.
