‘The scoreline didn’t reflect the game.’ A familiar Andy Hessenthaler post-match comment – and he trotted it out again after we were subjected to another thrashing at the weekend. I’m not too sure how many more times we’re going to hear this statement before the end of the season, but one thing is clear. The league table WILL reflect the season – and to be honest, it already is: second bottom, after a 4-1 pasting (that’s what a three goal defeat is – a pasting) at the hands of a relegation rival. The league table doesn’t lie – and right now we are the second worst side in the division, with the second worst defence and the worst goal difference.
The bare facts of the matter were, they scored four, we scored one and we were well beaten by a side in a similar situation to ourselves. How much longer the fans have to put up with this ineptitude, followed by the lame clichéd excuses is anyone’s guess. One thing’s for sure. The longer we have to endure Hessenthaler as our manager, the longer we’ll have to wait before we’ll have a team to be proud of again. The fact that he doesn’t seem to care what anyone else thinks makes the whole situation all the more difficult to swallow.
Please, Mr. Scally, sack Hessenthaler and save our football club.
