The expression `a game of two halves` certainly came into effect today. The first half was honestly one of the worst halves of football I have seen in my years of following the Gills, neither team created any opportunities and neither team seemed to win a midfield battle that was so important to the game.
So we needed a performance in the second half and got one. I was very pleased with the solid defence and thought Ian Cox was our best performer along with Alan Pouton. Pouton I feel has been one of the key reasons to our excellent form in the last few games. As for Crofts, I am so glad he has signed a new contract; the transformation he has made from youth teamer to essential first team player has been incredible.
Darren Byfield needs to buck his ideas up. Darius I felt today had to put in a lot more work than usual today, as Byfield didn't look interested at times.
Results went our way today and if we can grind out wins and draws against the teams around us, and get the odd points against the likes of the top teams, we WILL stay up.
